This autumn, service mechanics of the precision farming department of the agro-technological holding company «Bizon» mastered safety rules for working at heights using safety systems and mountaineering equipment. The classes were held at the «Rostov College of Communications and Informatics» as part of the company’s activities to ensure labor safety.

In order to perform field work with maximum efficiency, an increasing number of agricultural enterprises are implementing precision farming systems. Course indicators, autopilots, yield mapping devices, and equipment for controlling the consumption and application of materials are installed on equipment. Some devices, such as RTK base stations, need to be placed at high altitudes to increase coverage — on towers, industrial buildings, and hangars.

This means that the specialists who ensure their operation must be able to work not only in a supported space, but also in an unsupported space using rope access tools — slings, carabiners, various safety systems. Therefore, the service mechanics of the precision farming department completed a special course in a specialized educational institution, where they received the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills in working at height.

The training was conducted at a specially equipped training ground, where simulators were installed to simulate real conditions. Our specialists were taught safe ascent and descent, rules for working at height. They studied anchor devices and the method of installing attachment points, complex suspension. Upon completion of the training, service mechanics were issued certificates and personal high-altitude work logbooks. Many of them have already begun to apply their knowledge and skills on farms during the installation of precision farming systems.
